I’m so Glad You’re Here: A Note from My Table to Yours
The next season of At the Table
Dear friend,
If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance we already know each other.
You may have been cooking from 31Daily for years — the afternoon tea recipes, the Sunday soups, the weeknight dinners that for many have become family favorites. You may have joined my email list long ago, found me through a recipe, or simply stayed along the way, which is what moves me most when I think about it.
However you arrived here — welcome. I’m so glad you’re at this table.
Something has shifted.
A few months ago, I began this Substack, not with a lot of intention, just a place our community might enjoy. And something unexpected happened. You showed up — warmly, generously, and in greater numbers than I anticipated.
Last Saturday morning, on an impulse, I sent you a recipe for Blueberry Scones.
It became the most-read post on 31Daily of the day. Since then, it has held the number one spot all weekend and into this week — until today, when A Revolutionary Tea published and took the top position.
Two very different posts, both finding you exactly where your interests are.
Two days ago, a reader left a comment on my Grilled Flatbread recipe that I have been thinking a lot about. He said,
“Maybe it’s just me, but I find the constant ad popups on all of the recipe web sites so unbelievably annoying. Love your recipe though.”
He’s not wrong. The ad experience on food blogs — across the industry, not just 31Daily — has become something most of us navigate rather than enjoy. It’s the tradeoff that keeps free recipes free, and I understand why readers feel it.
Substack is different. No ads. No popups. No interruptions between you and the recipe. Just a letter, in your inbox, from me.
At the Table is opening a paid tier this week.
Not because I have everything perfectly planned — I don’t. But because the best things I’ve built over ten years at 31Daily didn’t begin perfectly planned either. They began because a moment felt right, or a middle-of-the-night idea about a website came to fruition.
This moment feels equally right.
What paid subscribers receive:
Twice a month, a paid letter arrives in your inbox. A proper letter — the kind I’d write if I were sitting across from you at the table — with something worth making or planning, written the way I actually cook and gather. With process, with context, with the small details that don’t always fit neatly into a blog post.
No ads. No popups. Just the recipe and the story behind it.
The first one arrives this Saturday.
It’s a Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish that’s quick and easy to make on Father’s Day weekend. The flavors of the treat rivals the sweet yeasted dough recipe and gives you back precious holiday weekend time. It’s special, but quick and easy. My husband came through the kitchen on his way back to the office and ate half of them before I could say a word.
I think you’ll love it.
The details:
Paid subscriptions are $6 a month or $55 a year — less than a danish from your favorite bakery, arriving twice a month in your inbox.
Free Wednesday letters continue exactly as they are. Nothing changes for free subscribers except that now there’s a door, if you’d like to open it.
If you’ve been reading along and this feels like your kind of table — I’d love to have you.
Thank you for being here. For the scones weekend, for the Revolutionary Tea, for the comments, and the years of cooking alongside me.
I’ll see you Saturday.
With warmth,
Stephanie
