Soup Sunday: Let the Slow Cooker Do the Work
A simple, comforting soup for winter Sundays
Soup Sunday is one of my favorite winter rituals.
There’s something comforting about knowing dinner is taking care of itself while the day unfolds — a walk if the weather allows, a book within reach, perhaps a pot of tea warming the afternoon. January asks us to slow down just a bit, and Sundays are a good place to begin!
This week’s soup is one I turn to often in the heart of winter, especially on days when I want something nourishing without much effort.
Crock Pot Chicken and Rice Soup
This is the kind of soup you start after breakfast and forget about until the house smells like dinner.
Simple ingredients, a gentle simmer, and a slow cooker doing all the work — it’s cozy, reliable, and deeply comforting. Tender chicken, soft rice, and a broth that feels like it’s been simmering all day (because it has).
I love this soup for Sundays because:
It’s easy enough to make without thinking
It fills the house with warmth as it cooks
It reheats beautifully for lunches later in the week
It’s also the sort of recipe you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again, especially in the colder months.
How We Serve It
Usually with:
A slice of warm bread or simple crackers.
Or sometimes just a bowl and a spoon — nothing more needed
It’s hearty enough on its own and gentle enough for everyone at the table. If you’re in the mood to bake bread, try our homemade whole wheat bread for a delicious treat throughout the week!

I’ll be saving a few favorites — like Irish Potato Leek Soup — for early March, when they feel just right again.
Until then, I hope this soup brings a bit of deliciousness to your Sunday and warmth to the days ahead.
Wishing you a great start to the week,
Stephanie
