Welcoming October: 7 Simple Ways to Celebrate Fall
From pumpkin seeds to apple muffins, here’s how I’m celebrating fall.
October always feels like a doorway. A hush comes with cooler air, the leaves begin to turn, and there’s that whisper of holidays ahead. I pulled out an older list I once wrote—28 Ways to Celebrate Fall—and it reminded me how much joy is found in the little things.
Here are the 7 ideas I’m especially looking forward to this October (some already underway!):
Visit a pumpkin patch — we’re planning a trip this weekend (weather permitting!). Nothing says October like pumpkins on the porch.
Bake something with apples — I’m testing a healthy apple muffin recipe right now, inspired by my popular healthy pumpkin muffins. I’ll share the apple muffins soon!
Roast pumpkin seeds — every year I forget until too late. Not this year! Here’s my go-to recipe for pumpkin seeds.
Take a foliage drive — nothing resets me like an hour in the car with coffee and a view of golden leaves.
Light dinner candles — tiny rituals matter and set the coziest of moods.
Curl up with a book — I have a stack already waiting (with some page-turners I can’t quite put down). What are your favorite books?
Host something simple — a potluck, a soup night, or just inviting a couple of friends over to sip autumn tea together.
These little practices have a way of anchoring us in the season, of slowing time just enough to savor it.
